All in Filter Parameter with Tableau and Cube Structures

Today a Client asked me, how to include an (All) value in a filter made with a Parameter. I searched the official forum and Googled it, but didn’t find an answer – so I had to come up with the solution myself.
Basically the purpose in this specific case was to set a common filter across multiple data sources in a workbook – but an Include All button doesn’t come out of the box in this case.
Below I describe the steps to set this up.

The Danish Consumer Price Index (CPI) – The Story in the Data.

This week, I got the pleasure of speaking about new features in the Tableau 8.2 release, at a client event within Inspari. As Story Points is a much highlighted features in 8.2, I had to cover this topic. Therefore, I decided to tell a data story. I got onto the National Statistics Institute of Denmark (Danmarks Statistik) and got my hands on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from which I created my data story.

Finally a presentation tool with power and points

Tableau 8.2 with the new feature 'Story Points' was recently released - and great things are in store for data visualizers and story tellers!
At its core, Story Points is a tool for better communicating and sharing your insights and discoveries with your audience. It basically lets you construct a presentation where you can build a narrative while still taking advantage of all the interactivity. You as the presenter or the audience as explorer can filter, zoom, select data, and access tooltip information and underlying data just as if it were a normal workbook. Only now it will be packaged in a presentation format with a narrative structure and layout defined by you as an author - pretty nifty! The narrative may be your story of the discoveries and conclusions you have made while working with the data, or it may be more of a guided tour through the information.

The new Data Connectivity view in Tableau 8.2

Yesterday Tableau 8.2 was released, and a new Data Connectivity view was introduced. From now on joins of tables within a single data source will be managed visually and a total view of your data connection is available in a single window. This underpin the overall vision for Tableau to help people see and understand data – not data geniuses with an advanced skillset within databases, but all kinds of people with a basic understanding of data structures.

Replicating Excel's Weekday function into Tableau

Excel holds a WEEKDAY() function returning the integer day number of the week. In order to get the same result in Tableau, use the DATEPART() function, taking the weekday part of a specific date.
